The life of a midwife involves being on call. This gets especially risky when you try to plan anything important.
I have a mom who is 41 weeks tomorrow (Wed) and three other moms all around the 38 week mark. They are in various directions. My daughter, Erin, had a birthday this week and I wanted to plan a birthday dinner celebration for her but I was nervous about whether I'd actually be able to attend myself! I planned food that could be cooked in the crock pot and side dishes that could be made ahead and refrigerated so 'just in case' dinner could go on without me.
It worked. No one went into labor....yet.
Now Thanksgiving is approaching. One daughter is heading to her mother-in-law's house that day so we are going to attempt a family meal on Friday instead.
Trying to think of traditional foods that can be made ahead and have them ready to go again, just in case.
Hoping the timing of these little ones is again working in my favor.
You just never know.

speaking of taking risks.... it is true that you NEVER know! My nearly four months old was due on 15th but chose to come on 5th with only 2.5 hours warning. Everything was fine at the end.
