You see, one of the mommas due this month is my previous assistant. Her due date actually falls next in line, though who knows which momma will win the race. Janelle was present for the first, rather traumatic birth a few weeks ago, then did not quite make it in time for this recent birth.
So now, she and I are just keeping ourselves busy and twiddling our thumbs waiting.
And waiting.
But tonight, I hoping to have my oldest granddaughter Olivia come spend the night and tomorrow with me. Hoping to find something fun to do with her around.
So, babies....hold off for about 24 hours then, k?
BTW, my client houseguests were awesome. I don't regret for a second having them come up to deliver here. They were helpful and sweet, fun to be around and it was kind of nice having a newborn in the house for a few days. They left after 72 hours so I could keep an eye on mom and baby for a few days.
We had both daughters and their families over for a hot dog lunch on July 4th. Hot dogs were all I dared to offer with the possibility of labor duty looming. Right before lunch, I was outside on the brick sidewalk in front of the house and I honestly don't know exactly what happened. We have lots of tiny twigs, limbs and leaves on the walks from all the recent storms and I think I slipped on one and sprained my ankle. It is still black and blue but at least I can now put weight on that foot. It probably is a good thing the babies held off just a little bit so I could get around.
I hope everyone is having a beautiful summer!

That is so neat about having a baby birthed at your home. You know our law here in AL will not allow that. All the moms here have to drive up to Tennessee if they want a home birth.
Also, so sorry about your ankle! Not fun at all. Hope you get better soon!
Actually, even though the AL law does not allow direct entry midwives to practice openly there, LOTS of homebirths go on in that state. I personally know several active and busy midwives there. We are not legal here either. It isn't against the law to HAVE a homebirth, it is just illegal for the midwife to practice. Kind of a dichotomy, isn't it?
So eventful! I'm glad you were able to have some time with your family! I know you want them to wait 24 hours, but if they waited a little longer than that, I would be okay with it. :) Thanks for keeping us posted! You are appreciated by more people than you know!
